Homeschool Style

The Boy is homeschooled.  We are fairly new to the process but it fits right in with our hippy “Montessori” household (in quotes because we do not follow the philosophy but it is what some people like to call our parenting style).  It has not been unusual for our house to be dominated by the interests and current obsessions of the The Girl and The Boy.  I don’t mind the clutter of legos, art projects, experiments, and inventions of all types. It is what matters most to us.  So even prior to our adventure in homeschool, our house was a place of fun, learning, and discovery but not always of neurotic impeccable neatness.  Now that we homeschool The Boy, we like to call it “Homeschool Style”.
He came up with that term and you have to say it like “old school style”-kind of cool, hipster like. Maybe even point your fingers from your hips and do a little tongue-click.  The Boy is like a modern Fonzie sometimes.  It started when he was troubled about making something for Mother’s Day. He usually had done those types of projects at school with his teacher, but now his teacher was me.  So he thought about it for awhile and then said, “Don’t worry, Mom, I am going to do something ‘Homeschool Style.’ ”  (Then the finger points, tongue click, smoothed the pompadour, rode off on his chopper-not really because he’s not old enough to ride a chopper.) I think he made me a sweet card with the help of The Girl but the best gift was the newly, coined phrase “Homeschool Style” which fits this house to a T!

What is your “Homeschool Style”?
